Benefits of joining the career academy include fun field trips and engaging guest speakers through partnerships with organizations like the Carolina Hurricanes, NC State University, Carolina Railhawks, Raleigh Convention Center, Raleigh Convention & Visitors Bureau, The Umstead Hotel & Spa, Summit Hospitality Group, and many more. Students will also participate in workshops designed to help them land (and keep) the job they want and engage in exciting job shadowing and internship opportunities that will be great for resumes and college applications while helping shape future college or career plans. In addition, academy students will be grouped together in some core courses to help connect academic content with the real world and build strong relationships and teamworking skills with peers.
During the 2014-2015 academic year, Wake County Public School System’s nine existing career academies again achieved a 100% graduation rate, while WCPSS academy students also attained significantly higher grade point averages, higher ACT and End-of-Course test scores and higher attendance rates than their peers. Broughton’s career academy joins this well-established, highly successful group of career academy programs, which have a proven track record of creating higher student engagement, leading to improved academic performance along with enhanced college and career readiness.
